3-2 Sandhurst Town SaintsAs Sandhurst town saints went into this match as the only undefeated team in the league, Farnborough Town Invincibles went into this match knowing only a victory would do.
And so the battle began
The first part of the first half was mainly spent in the Sandhurst half as the Invincibles went all out attack. A great power header was brilliantly kept out by the Sandhurst keeper and kept the score as 0-0.
With almost their first meaningful attacking move Sandhurst went 1-0 up with a nicely taken goal, totally against the run of play.
Farnborough did not give up and midway though the half forced an equaliser with one of Steven field`s power throw ins eluding almost everyone apart from the defenders knee which directed the ball in to the back of the net.
Spirits were high but as with all great teams they took their eye off the ball just after scoring and gave a very weak goal away making the half time score 1-2 to Sandhurst.
The second half witnessed a major turn around, suddenly the whole team were hungry for the ball, chasing and closing expertly, with the half barely started Dan North fired home our equaliser with a classy finish.
Sandhurst looked rattled and slightly disorientated which the Invincibles took full advantaged of as a great cross fell to Dan North on the edge of the area and with a clean crisp half volley he lobed the keeper to make it 3-2.
Sandhurst were indeed now very rattled but with 20 mins to play it looked like a very nervous time installed for the Farnborough groupies sat on the bench.
The rest of the match was spent with the whole team battling and chasing every loose ball, the clock seemed to run at half speed, Sandhurst players and supporters were in a head spin as everything they throw at the Invincibles was expertly dealt with. There was to be fair a few moments where it looked like the equaliser might come but with the defence forcing the attacks wide every time it looked like it was not going to be there day.
Dan North must have felt this as well as he managed to some how not score his hat trick, as he hit the post and also watched as the ball whistled agonising wide after yet another clever chip. Attack Attack Attack must have been the half time war cry from Phil as Marcus was running his legs off up front and coming close a few times, and Steven field blasting one over the bar. There were even several goal mouth scrabbles.
Sam Jones was ducking and weaving down the line sending their players heads in yet another spin, Byrce and the other defenders were keeping the attackers at bay. And the midfield were closing down fast and hard. It all brought together a classic end to a match
With Phil`s finger nails bitten down to bare bone the referee blew the final whistle and brought to an end a great and memorable victory. The groupies went wild, the players were ecstatic and Sandhurst managers phone went crashing on the floor just like their unbeaten record.
If the website was allowed to award a man of the match award it would have no hesitation on giving it to the whole team for the best team performance i have witnessed this season.
