Vs BurymeadFarnborough Invincibles 3 Burymead 2
The matched had hardly started on this lovely freezing cold wet and windy afternoon, before the Invincibles were 1-0 up with a fine header by David, i cant report to much as due to the busy paths i was a little late.
The Invincibles then went on to dominate a first half full of one way traffic, they were unlucky not to have gone in at half time at least 3 or 4 nil up, but for some fine saves from the Burymead keeper.
We had chance after chance one fine free kick was pushed on to the cross bar and a few shots wisped just wide.
The first half as said was all one way traffic with the Invincibles keeper a lone figure at the back, the work rate and commitment from the team was first class.
The second half started for a change as they finished the first , still on top and wanting to be first to every ball.
However with the wind now against us Burymead were now taking the odd shot to test our keeper, but then a fine break in the middle saw Steven Field slip the ball past the keeper to give us a 2-0 lead, the signs were good the team were gelling and again the work rate was superb.
BUT and there always seems to be a but, this is where the Invincibles decided that they had won the match, even though there was around 20 mins still left to play, and allowed Burymead into the game, suddenly they were the stronger team , and launched attack after attack, which it must be said the defence dealt with.
Then a shot out the blue spooled out of Craigs arms and slipped under his legs to give Burymead a life line, with only around 10 mins left.
It was then a battle in midfield as attack after attack from both sides came to nothing.
Until a sharp break and some fine passing set Dan North in to score our Third and restore the two gaol advantage, with only minutes on the clock it looked like it was going to be our day.
BUT yes you guessed it , Borough went to sleep again, and some sloppy defending let Burymead cross the ball and set up a rocket shot to give Burymead another lifeline with only 3 mins of normal time left to play.
Nerves went too pieces at that stage and with only a few minutes left on the clock it all looked like another 3 points slipping away.
Burymead had 3 or 4 chances right at the death to steal a point and steal it would have been, lucky for the Invincibles a rushed shot from the Burymead striker when clean though on goal went wide and with it went their last chance.
Another nerve racking performance, but this time we got wat we deserved which was 3three points.
Apart form the relaxed play in the second half we ran them off the pitch and deserved to win by a much bigger margin.
there was some fine performances form Andy Dorking in midfield chasing and closing every ball, also centre of defence Sam Davis had another strong game, but the oner that caught my eye was the only and only Byrce, he has matured well this season and a very strong and commanding performance at left back stopped Burymead in their tracks.
Its not easy for the staff to get all subs on in a game like this, as proved before too many subs disrupts the balance of the team, so you have to ask yourself take the 3 points or give al the subs a run?? not a decision that is taken lightly by the staff.
But remember even if your a sub and do not get to play you are part of the team and your support helps.
All in all another great team performance where each section linked with teh other, each player covered as well.
